Description:       The Wayne F. Placek Grant is presented annually to support empirical research from all fields of the behavioral and social sciences on any topic related to lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender (LGBT) issues. The Placek program goal is to increase the general public’s understanding of sexual orientation and to alleviate the stress that LGBT people experience in present and future societies.

Eligible applicants are doctoral level researchers and graduate students affiliated with educational institutions of 501(c)(3) nonprofit research organizations. Graduate students and early career researchers are encouraged to apply. Proposals are especially encouraged for empirical studies that address the following topics: heterosexuals’ attitudes and behaviors toward LGBT individuals, including prejudice, discrimination, and violence; family and workplace issues relevant to LGBT individuals; and special concerns of subgroups of the LGBT population that have historically been underrepresented in scientific research. Applications must be submitted online.
