Description: Amazon Web Services, Inc. presents AWS Machine Learning Research Awards to fund academic research in machine learning (ML) and its applications in addressing a wide range of problems and needs. Research areas of interest include ML advancements in computer vision, robotics, life science, language, speech, problem solving, reasoning, and decision making. Proposals from faculty teams in different institutions partnering on research are allowed, with a funding breakdown per institution. Confidential information should not be included in any proposal.
Eligible applicants are full-time faculty members and university departments leading a team of graduate students and postdoctoral researchers, with a principal investigator as primary contact, at US institutions and others in North America and Europe. Required application information includes the university affiliation, a proposal summarizing how the research will contribute to or advance ML research, and amount requested. Awards are made at the department and project level as a one-year unrestricted gift to the academic institution and include AWS promotional credits toward eligible AWS services. The application process requires an initial email to request an application, with a contact link provided on the website. Award decisions are made quarterly.
