Description:        The National Science Foundation solicits proposals for interdisciplinary convergence research with educational components to study natural and built environments and social systems in the rapidly changing Arctic region. Proposals are accepted for collaboratory, incubator, and research initiatives across the social, natural, environmental, computing and information sciences, and engineering. Priority areas of interest are outlined in the program solicitation.

Within education, there are the following areas of focus:

• Methods and impacts related to the dissemination of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) research results.

• Research on the effectiveness of formal and informal education activities. Improved STEM education and educator development at any level.

• Studies to increase public literacy in science and technology. Diverse methods to create and engage an informed public critical to the development of national policies and priorities.

Eligible applicants are US two- and four-year accredited institutions of higher education, including community colleges; and nonprofit, nonacademic organizations, including independent museums, observatories, research laboratories, professional societies, and similar organizations associated with educational or research activities. There is a priority to demonstrate full participation of women, persons with disabilities, and other underrepresented groups in STEM. Proposals should include plans to engage local and indigenous community members and collaborate with anchor institutions such as governments; federal, state, and local agencies; schools; libraries; health and social service providers; tribes and indigenous-serving organizations; nonprofits; cultural organizations; and businesses. Cost sharing and matching funds are not required. Applications must be submitted online.
