The Klorane Botanical Foundation is committed to supporting programs to teach respect for the environment and protect nature through the preservation of plant species and biodiversity. Designed to further their mission, the Budding Botanist Grant will help our youngest citizens learn about plants, explore their world and inspire them to take care of the life they discover in their local ecosystems.
In early 2019, six grant packages valued at $3,000 in cash and supplies will be awarded to six schools across the United States.
Any Title I public or charter school serving students in grades K to 12 in the United States is eligible to apply. Applicants must be planning a new or expanding an existing school garden program designed to teach students about environmental sustainability and the importance of biodiversity.
Each grant recipient will receive a package of tools and educational materials valued at $500 along with a check for $2,500 to spend on the materials needed to install a new or expand an existing school garden.
In addition to the award packages, grant recipients will become members of the KidsGardening Fellows Program receiving opportunities to promote their programs, network with other grant winners, and seek personalized guidance from KidsGardening education specialists.
Grant winners must be willing to host a garden celebration planned with the help of KidsGardening and the Klorane Botanical Foundation between March and June of 2019. Winners must be open to hosting guests from local media outlets at these events. They must also distribute and collect media release forms for all participating students. Information about the garden programs of grant recipients will be shared through images and videos digitally and through social media. All funded gardens must be able to be installed by the end of the 2018-2019 school year.
Grant recipients will also be required to complete an end of the year report, providing a minimum of 5-10 digital images of the garden program (with parental release forms for photos of youth as needed) by December of 2019 to document the impact of the program on your students and community.
