In previous years, the foundation has awarded grants to nonprofit organizations that support innovative education programs at multiple levels. Examples include a garden-as-classroom work-study program to empower low-income kindergarten through grade 12 students; environmental education and outdoor recreation for children and adults; a biking program for children and adults with physical disabilities; wilderness field trips for urban youth; confidence-building adventures for children with special needs; a summer camp for children and families living with diabetes; after-school tutoring programs; and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education programs.
