Description:       The US Department of the Navy seeks proposals to improve education and training in science, engineering, technology, and mathematics (STEM) for middle school students through to the current workforce. Expectations are to establish, build, or maintain research-informed educational pathways, outreach, and workforce opportunities aligned with Naval priorities in science and technology. The scope of projects may vary in size and complexity. Activity plans should improve the capacity of education systems and communities to create impactful STEM educational experiences for students of all ages and the Naval-related workforce, provide innovative solutions to increase student engagement, and improve student outcomes in STEM. Applicants are strongly encouraged to include individuals and communities underrepresented and underserved in STEM, including women and minorities. Other priorities are military connected students, veterans’ initiatives, and education systems integral to naval science and technology.

Proposals are accepted in one of the following categories:

• STEM Cybersecurity Education and Cyber Awareness focused on students in grades 6 through 12.

• STEM Interests Supporting Warfighter Performance, such as human physiology, medical technologies, and artificial intelligence.

• Office of Naval Research Global STEM Interests. Examples are self-paced software coding courses for students in grades 6 through 12 and courses to expose students of all ages to job opportunities available to computer programmers and software engineers.

• Naval Accelerator STEM educational and training for career and workforce development. Examples are internships for veterans and underrepresented groups in STEM and curriculum models, resource development, and experiential learning in national security innovation.

Eligible applicants are academic institutions, nonprofit organizations, and industry. University Affiliated Research Centers are also eligible to apply. Naval and community partnerships are encouraged. Cost sharing and matching funds are not required. White papers outlining project plans may be requested prior to submission of full proposals. Applicants are strongly encouraged to contact the cognizant program officer to discuss proposal and submission requirements. White papers and full proposals must be submitted online.
